In today’s world of social media, photography infiltrates our everyday. From Instagram scrolling on the morning commute to night out snapchat stories, documenting our lives through a lens has increasingly become the norm.

But with the rise of everyday photography, have we forgotten the value of the art itself?

A few weeks ago Jasmin of A Couple of Photos fame invited myself and 3 other Edinburgh-based bloggers Talor (@talorgilchrist_), Emily (@franklymsshankly) and Lucie (@lucie_dumpling) along to the opening of her London Street studio for fun, fizz, photos and face paint (OK make-up but it was going to ruin the alliteration).

My – albeit limited – experience of professional photo shoots is that it looks a lot more fun than the end result suggests; there can be a lot of waiting around, being uncomfortable and feeling cold, but in Jasmin’s little studio it couldn’t have felt more different.

She has a great ability to make you feel at ease and as a result produces excellent portraits. In our selfie culture, we often forget that one of the elements necessary for great portrait photography doesn’t depend on the model, but rather the technical and interpersonal skills of the person  on the other side of the lens.

So for anyone interested in getting their photograph taken – be it a family shot, couples or friends – I can highly recommend Jasmin as the girl for the job. She’ll put a smile on your face and capture it in a photo that will lift your spirits every time you look at it.

Thanks again to Jasmin (and Victor!) for such a fun night and for the gorgeous printed memories.
